A team of five from Wayne’s Environmental Services spent the early part of December at La Baliza, working on several projects across the ranch. The main, heavy-lifting project was pouring a sidewalk in front of the new school building. This was completed, plus one slab was poured on the side of the school. They also poured a concrete slab/walkway between the water area and the electrical room. This had been an exposed area that was susceptible to damage/etc. Now it is covered up and secured.
Both entry gates were cleaned, sanded and stained by the ladies on the trip. About 50% of the paint was scraped off for the church/common area, in preparation for repainting. Finally, the team built four bookshelves and began to prepare them for sanding and staining. These bookshelves will go in the classrooms of the school.
The team was greatly impacted by how the Hasletts’ and the La Baliza staff who have such a heart for the boys. Each member of the team shared how they loved hearing stories from the Hasletts and getting to know the people at La Baliza. It was a privilege to spend some time working alongside them.
We had a wonderful two weeks of Vacation Bible School at La Baliza. We had a blast with our Safari theme and the boys and girls learned about being courageous in the Lord. Many of the kids memorized all five of the verses, and everyone was challenged to courageously trust God. Pray that the seeds of the gospel that were sown will find a place in the hearts of these young ones as they continue to be a part of this community.

We have had a school at La Baliza for our younger boys, as well as children from the community, for several years. Around 27 children attend La Escuelita. Currently the school meets in various locations on the ranch, depending on what is available. It has long been on our wish list to have a building dedicated just for the school.
Last year, land was cleared and footings were poured. In March a team of thirteen people from Wisconsin spent a week at La Baliza completing the next phase of the school building- building the lower block walls and putting the electrical and plumbing systems in place.
The next phase will be upper wooden walls, and in June, a team from California will put on the roof. Our new school will have four classrooms, bathrooms, and an office. Needless to say, our teachers and students are super excited!
We are celebrating the baptism of three of our boys, Godson, Maikel, and Anthony! We are grateful to God for letting us see how they have grown and flourished in their ways. It was especially wonderful to see Maikel and Marvin’s mom and sister be baptized as well.
Boys, we love you and thank God for your lives. Go forth in His grace! “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ”. Galatians 3:26-27
